ECommerce - Product Attributes - Download Feature

The new Product Attributes Download and Upload feature found in the Category Browser lets you download a product list category of your choice into an Excel spreadsheet so you can assign and manage its different attributes and category path.

This offers a more convenient way to manage your inventory since you don’t have to make the changes manually in Web Admin. Just download a category spreadsheet, put in your updates and upload it back through the Category Browser section

A Look at the Category Spreadsheet

The Category Spreadsheet file contains all the items listed in the selected product category.

It has three sheets - Products, Categories and Attributes.

Among the three, only the Products sheet can be updated. The Categories and Attributes sheets should not be edited since they contain important data used by the Product sheet. Any changes made to the Categories and Attributes sheets will affect how the Product sheet functions.

In the Product Sheet, Columns A to E contain the following values:

  1. StoreProductCategoryID
  2. CategoryPath
  3. StoreProductID
  4. SKU
  5. ProductName

The CategoryPath displays a drop-down list of the different product categories which you can choose from. These categories follow a strict value format so it’s crucial not to make any changes to their formatting to avoid any issues during upload.

While only the CategoryPath should be edited here, all other columns must still have the correct information. The system is designed to check the data placed here during the upload process so it’s important to ensure that all information here is accurate.

Columns F to X on the other hand contain a list of the different Product Attributes. Each of its headers displays the Attribute ID and Name. The data in these headers should not be changed for any reason to avoid any issues during upload.

The Attributes section is also designed to be dynamic so while the current image may show a total of 19 Attributes, these can change depending on the Product Category that was selected.

Downloading and Updating the Spreadsheet

To download a product category in Excel or CSV format, open your site’s Web Admin and go to the Ecommerce section.

Click Store Management and select the Category Browser menu.

In the Category Browser page, select the category you want to update and click the Download button.

Once the file has been downloaded, you may proceed to edit the Products sheet by changing the CategoryPath column (Column B) or assigning Product Attributes to a particular item (Columns F to X).

Editing Categories and assigning new Attributes can be done just by selecting a specific cell and choosing the value you want from its drop-down list.

Uploading Your Spreadsheet

To upload your updated Excel or CSV spreadsheet, go back to your site’s Web Admin and open its Category Browser.

Click the Upload button to browse and select the file you want to upload.

Ideally the recommended file format should be in Excel due to its smaller file size compared to the CSV format.

Also, during your upload, please make sure to close the file you selected. If left unopened, the upload will not take place due to a sharing violation as shown in the screenshot below.

Once the upload process has ended, a message prompt will appear to let you know whether the attempt to upload your Excel or CSV file was successful or not.

Things to Remember

When using the new Download and Upload feature, please keep in mind the following details to keep you from running into any issues:

  • Always select a category before download. The system will prompt you to do so if you don’t.
  • Only the Products sheet can be updated. Any changes made to the Categories and Attributes sheets will affect how the Product sheet functions.
  • Product Attributes headers (Columns F to X) should not be edited.
  • Categories follow a strict value format so it’s crucial not to make any changes to their formatting to avoid any issues during upload.
  • Close the Spreadsheet you’re editing before uploading. If it’s left opened, a sharing violation will occur and prevent your file upload.
  • Excel is the ideal file type to use due to is smaller file size compared to the CSV format making it faster to upload.
